Vertex Advisory Services looking for a highly skilled SAP Basis Consultant to join our team and provide application management services (AMS) support for our SAP environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for receiving, analyzing, and resolving tickets raised by business users, ensuring that issues are addressed within defined SLA timelines.
The candidate should possess strong technical expertise in SAP Basis operations, including system configuration, user administration, transport management, and backup/recovery processes. Additionally, they should have a solid understanding of Ticketing tools and exceptional communication skills and flexibility to work during after-hours
– Roles & Responsibilities
1. Ticket Management:
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve SAP Basis-related tickets raised by business users within the defined SLA.
- Perform root-cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive measures.
- Escalate unresolved issues to appropriate teams (SAP Functional, Infrastructure, or DBA teams) and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain proper documentation for issue resolution and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing.
- Perform SAP system administration tasks such as:
- System configurations
- RFC (Remote Function Call) connections
- Transport Management (TMS)
- Backup and Recovery processes
- Conduct daily system health checks, analyze system logs, and troubleshoot issues to ensure system stability.
- Manage SAP batch jobs, update kernel patches, and maintain OSS connections.
- Oversee SAP Interfaces, Integration processes, and third-party system connectivity.
- Handle user administration, including user creation, role assignments, password resets, and lock/unlock operations.
- Manage role-based access control (RBAC) to ensure users have the necessary authorizations.
- Address and resolve user access issues while enforcing SAP security policies.
- Work with auditors to support compliance-related activities, including SOX and GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) audits.
- Monitor system performance using SAP Basis Monitoring Tools (e.g., SAP Solution Manager, SAP Early Watch, ST02, ST06, ST22).
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SAP systems (e.g., database, memory, CPU, work processes).
- Optimize system performance by tuning memory parameters, background jobs, and buffer settings.
- Generate system performance reports and proactively address potential issues.
- Implement and manage SAP system backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
- Work closely with database administrators to perform database backups, restores, and recovery procedures.
- Execute SAP system restores in case of critical system failures or downtimes.
- Conduct regular disaster recovery drills and document backup policies.
- Manage SAP Transport Management System (TMS) to handle development and production transport requests.
- Work with development and functional teams to ensure smooth deployment of SAP changes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot transport failures, analyze logs, and ensure proper transport sequencing.
- Implement best practices to prevent system inconsistencies due to incorrect transport movements.
- Administer SAP NetWeaver system landscapes, including ECC, S/4HANA, BW, CRM, SCM, and SRM environments.
- Perform system refreshes, system copies, and database migrations using SAP tools such as SWPM, SUM, and DMO.
- Execute SAP upgrades, kernel patching, and enhancement pack installations.
- Ensure minimal business impact while performing system upgrades and migrations.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for SAP Basis issues as per the team’s rotational schedule.
- Respond to and resolve critical system outages, ensuring business operations remain unaffected.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams during high-priority incidents.
- Maintain detailed logs and reports for after-hours support activities.
- Work with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools like ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, or Jira for ticket management.
- Follow ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management.
- Document incidents, resolutions, and root-cause analysis reports for process improvement.
- Participate in change advisory board (CAB) meetings for SAP change request approvals.
- ABAP Debugging Knowledge:
- Ability to analyze and debug ABAP code to assist functional consultants in troubleshooting program errors.
- Collaboration with Teams:
- Work closely with SAP application, security, infrastructure, and DBA teams for effective issue resolution.
- Engage with SAP vendors and support teams (SAP OSS) for advanced troubleshooting.
